For the first time ever, the captivating story of the Fab Four is set to unfold on the big screen in a groundbreaking series of biopics. These films promise an intimate and uncensored look at the lives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, tracing their individual journeys from humble beginnings to global stardom.
A New Lens on a Legendary Tale
While documentaries and concert films have offered glimpses into The Beatles’ world, these biopics promise a deeper dive into their personal and creative evolution. Each film will stand alone, chronicling the unique perspective of one member, yet intertwining seamlessly with the others to create a rich and multifaceted narrative.
The Visionary Director
Steering this ambitious project is none other than acclaimed director Sam Mendes, known for his masterful storytelling in films like “1917” and “American Beauty.” Mendes’ involvement was instrumental in securing the blessing of the surviving Beatles and their estates, a testament to his artistic vision and persuasive prowess.

Producer Pippa Harris emphasized Mendes’ crucial role, stating, “It’s a testament to his creative brilliance and powers of persuasion that Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon, and Olivia Harrison responded with such warmth and enthusiasm as soon as he spoke with them.”
This collaboration ensures an authentic and revealing portrayal, free from the constraints of a typical “authorized” biopic. As Harris revealed, “What is truly exciting is for Sam to have the freedom to delve into the lives of each of the Beatles, with nothing off limits and no sense of the band wanting him to tell a particular ‘authorised’ version of their rise to success.”
The Quest for the Perfect Cast
While the script is still under wraps, the anticipation surrounding the casting is palpable. The actors chosen for these iconic roles carry the weight of expectation from millions of fans worldwide.
Names like George MacKay, Asa Butterfield, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, and Craig Roberts have been suggested, each bringing their own strengths to embody the essence of these musical legends.

However, early June 2024 saw The InSneider drop a potential bombshell, suggesting a different lineup: Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe as George Harrison.
Only time will tell who ultimately steps into these legendary shoes.
The Music that Changed the World
A Beatles biopic wouldn’t be complete without the soundtrack that defined a generation. For the first time, their iconic music will be woven into a scripted narrative about their lives, promising an immersive and unforgettable cinematic experience.
Securing the rights to The Beatles’ music is a feat in itself. James Sammataro, an attorney representing Sony Music, highlighted the significance, calling The Beatles and Michael Jackson “the two Holy Grails of music biopics” due to the challenges and costs involved.

However, this signifies a shift in perspective, as Sammataro observes, “Historically for artists, there wasn’t a lot of upside in biopics. The more recent move toward biopics is ancillary to an overall changing viewpoint about monetizing music, which is: the more exposure, the better.”
A Bold Release Strategy
Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film’s financier and distributor, aims to commence filming in 2025, with a potential release date of 2027.
The studio plans to employ an innovative release strategy, potentially launching all four films close together. As Sony’s chief Tom Rothman shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy. There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”
The Beatles' stories – collectively and individually – are officially heading to the big screen for the very first time.
